- description: The whole of England is to face a new month-long lockdown lasting until the second of December. Boris Johnson announced that unless action was taken now, hospitals would be overwhelmed and there would be thousands of deaths every day. He said no responsible Prime Minister could ignore the rising number of infections, despite having repeatedly rejected calls for a lockdown in recent weeks, in favour of local restrictions. Under the new national lockdown restaurants and pubs will close, but takeaways and deliveries will be allowed. All non-essential retail will also close, but supermarkets are to stay open Mixing with other households inside homes or in private gardens will be banned except for childcare and other forms of support. People are encouraged to work from home if possible.
