They are unable to hold onto the ball, however, and the Chiefs will feed the first scrum of the match. 3.00: The Chiefs get within 10m of the line but are penalised for an early tackle and Lambie kicks for touch. 5.00: The Sharks drive towards the line after winning a lineout against the throw inside the Chiefs' 22. They string together phases but the Chiefs' defence stands firm. The Sharks earn a penalty as the home side are pinged for off-side. Frederic Michalak will line up a kick at goal from directly in front of the uprights. 6.00: Michalak slots the kick, handing the Sharks an early lead. 8.00: JP Pietersen almost claims an intercept but the Chiefs have it covered. The Sharks apply pressure but the Chiefs work through phases inside opposition territory. 11.00: The Chiefs' set piece is being put under immense pressure from the Sharks and Mahonri Schwalger's throw-in at the lineout is not straight. The Sharks feed a scrum and Michalak clears. 13.00: The Chiefs work their way inside the opposition 22 but the Sharks' defence remains impenetrable as they drive the home team back. 16.00: The Sharks are able to affect a steal inside their own 22 after committing numbers to the breakdown. The Chiefs are penalised and the Sharks opt for a scrum. 18.00: The Chiefs gain territory with a strong kick and chase. Tim Nanai-Williams dots down for the opening try of the game after solid phase play by the Chiefs. 20.00: Cruden's conversion is on target. 71.00: The Sharks are penalised for hands in the ruck just 5m from their own line. Cruden will line up a kick at goal. 72.00: Cruden slots the kick, extending the Chiefs' lead. 73.00: Liam Messam makes a strong break for the home side before Asaeli Tikoirotuma is able to get within 10m of the line after finding several gaps. The Sharks affect a turnover, however, and clear the ball. 76.00: Sonny Bill Williams dots down for the Chiefs' fourth try after a solid break and quick recycles by the home side. 80.00: The hooter sounds as the Sharks lose the ball forward. The Chiefs are crowned 2012 Super Rugby champions.
