- description: Baby saved by dying grandmother's embrace rescued from China landslide A woman who died after she was trapped in the rubble following a landslide, but still managed to save her baby granddaughter is being hailed as a hero in China. Rescuers in Xingwen county, in western Sichuan province, told state-owned China Central Television (CCTV) that they were surprised to find Pan Guofeng and her 15-month-old granddaughter Wei Menghan alive, after a landslide brought down the structure. "When we approached the bedroom area, we heard the soft crying of a kid," Li Yong, the head of the county's firefighting team, told the broadcaster. The rescuers found Pan with her body crushed against beams and concrete in order to allow enough space for her granddaughter to survive. "Being buried for seven hours, but still safe and sound. It is such a miracle," said Li, who described the position in which rescuers found the grandmother. The baby's father said he was relieved after seeing the one-year-old baby rescued, but lamented the loss of his mother.
