Story: Authorities in Peru have arrested a British teenager and her Irish friend at Lima's international airport, for allegedly attempting to smuggle over two million dollars' worth of cocaine to Spain. British citizen Scot, Melissa Reid, aged 19, and Belfast resident Michaella McCollum Connolly, aged 20, were en route to Madrid and Majorca on Tuesday. Airport officials discovered almost 26 pounds of cocaine, hidden inside food packages in their luggage. [Melissa Reid, British Citizen]: "I was forced to take these bags in my luggage." [Police Questioner]: "You know it contained drugs?" [Melissa Reid, British Citizen]: "I did not know that." Carrying an estimated two-point-three million dollars worth of cocaine, Peruvian authorities believe the girls may have been working as drug couriers from South America to Europe. The suspects are currently being held in a Lima prison and if guilty, could receive up to 25 years in prison. Peru ranks among Colombia and Bolivia as one of the world's largest producers of cocaine.
