Guardiola fumes as Schweinsteiger sees red for foul on United man Bayern Munich accused Wayne Rooney of diving to get Bastian Schweinsteiger sent off as Manchester United kept their Champions League hopes alive. Schweinsteiger will be suspended, along with teammate Javi Martinez, for next Wednesday's quarter-final second leg in Germany after he was shown a second yellow card for tripping Rooney towards the end of a 1-1 draw. While the finger-wagging Schweinsteiger remonstrated with the floored Rooney, Bayern coach Pep Guardiola seemed to make a diving gesture towards Spanish referee Carlos Velasco Carballo and later said he did not agree with the decision. 'Absolutely not,' said Guardiola. 'I just spoke with the referee and he knows my opinion. He gave me his opinion and I have to respect that. To win the Champions League you have to overcome everything, so at times during the competition that happens. 'It's a pity. They are very important players for us. We will try to reach the semi-finals so they can play then.' The incident came after David Moyes had warned Carballo before the game to watch out for Bayern's diving tactics. The United manager said: 'I think Schweinsteiger trips Wayne up. It's a booking - or at least a foul.' But United were also fortunate not to go down to 10 men after Antonio Valencia escaped a second yellow card for a heavy challenge on Jerome Boateng. Moyes, though, defended his player, saying: 'The boy tackles the ball into Antonio Valencia. 'They both make a tackle and they get up. I think if anything it's just Antonio's follow through. It wasn't given.' Schweinsteiger cancelled out Nemanja Vidic's opener to give the European champions a slight advantage. But Moyes saw enough to believe that United could still reach the semi-finals in a season of turmoil which has seen the English champions struggling along in seventh in the Barclays Premier League. 'I always felt we could score a goal against them and I'll go to Munich believing we can score a goal,' he added. 'Coming into the tie, most people had Bayern as favourites and rightly so, they're European champions. 'But tonight shows that we'll be there, we'll go toe to toe with them and try to come out on top.' 'We need to score. We need to go there and attempt to win the game. Other sides have gone there and done that and we'll need to do the same.'
