- description: On July 26, 2016 at 8:15 p.m., BC Ferry "Spirit of British Columbia" was on a scheduled trip destined for Swartz Bay from the Tsawassen Ferry Terminal, when a small pleasure craft boat crossed their bow and almost caused an accident. BC Ferries officials reported to the RCMP, that the ferry was travelling in Swanson Channel near Saltspring Island, when the boat approached them at between 25 - 30 knots, before crossing their bow, and narrowly missing the ferry. The boat then continued west towards Satellite Channel. The captain of the BC Ferry later reported, the boat was an estimated 10 meters from his ferry's bow and had at least two persons on board. The ferry made several warning blasts of vessel's whistle prior to this near miss, however the pleasure craft was not deterred. The captain immediately slowed the ferry down causing danger to his crew and the passengers on board. The pleasure craft is described as follows: - Grady White; - 20 to 25 feet in length; - white hull with a hard top; - single large outboard motor. If you have any information on the identification of this vessel please, contact West Coast Marine Section at (250)751-8845 or remain anonymous and call CRIMESTOPPERS at 1(800)222-8477.
