  • description: Luis Suarez of Uruguay bit Giorgio Chiellini of Italy during the win-or-go-home final group stage match between the two teams. The Italians, shaken by the incident, then had to defend a set piece when they conceded the lone goal of the match, sending the Uruguayans into the knockout stage, and the Italians home. This is the third time that Suarez has been caught biting an opponent after doing it to PSV's Otman Bakkal while playing for Ajax during a UEFA Champions League match in 2010 and then - while playing for Liverpool in a 2013 Premier League match against Chelsea - Suarez bit Branislav Ivanovic. This all comes after Suarez was banned 8 matches in 2011 for racially abusing Manchester United Patrice Evra during a match. So, how should Suarez be dealt with. Remember, this is the World Cup, the biggest sporting event in the world and is supposed to be a peaceful, honorable competition representative of man's common love for the beautiful game. There is obviously no place for vampire impersonators on the pitch and there is certainly no place for Luiz Suarez any more after he has done it three times now. I think that - at a minimum - Suarez must be banned from international competition for life if FIFA wants to maintain its credibility, which is also something it has struggled with in recent years. The only question to me is whether Suarez should be banned altogether from the game and stripped of his contract altogether from Manchester United...the more I think about it, the more I think this is the right thing to do. The stakes are too high here. The replay is going to be shown all over the world in the coming days. FIFA must send a message to all the young soccer players out there that this kind of behaviour is totally unnacceptable. Ban Suarez for life.
