- description: This patient has rhinophyma which is a part of the condition Rosacea. Rhinophyma is thickening of the skin with overproduction of oil glands (sebaceous hyperplasia). First, I "shave down"/ sculpted the nose by removing two prominent bumps using electrosurgery which is essentially like melting/cutting thru butter using a hot wire loop. Underneath, there was so much oil/sebum I could squeeze much of it out. This is that yellowish pasty stuff you see come out of his pores. I actually misspeak: I call them blackheads and whiteheads but these are probably more likely just sebum under the skin produced by all the oil glands in the area.
