Noticing her surroundings and using the OODA Loop as her decision making 'filter'. Medium Awareness and the OODA loop, along with using her smart sense, by not wearing headphones, and not having her head stuck in a telephone texting.....is a great way to ensure her security as she walks across campus. Predators are looking for a 'soft' target, unaware, head down, lacking confidence or distracted. When a girl is aware, walking tall with confidence, walking with purpose, making eye contact, is not distracted with the telephone or ipod with a headset, she is naturally making herself a 'hard' target. She is on guard, she is aware, and she is not presenting herself as a victim. Ideally she would be walking with friends, and in the daytime. I recommend she never walks alone at night, as kind of like cockroaches, predators like to operate under the cover of darkness. As we move forward in our college series of safety tips for girls, we will discuss safeguarding apartments and dorm rooms. We will also discuss travel safety and being safe in your car and safe from being carjacked. Personal security and personal safety has a lot to do with taking precautions, being in the moment, staying aware and refusing to be a victim.
