Separatist Group Claiming Responsibility: A Chinese media personality received an open letter allegedly from a group of Chinese separatists called the "Chinese Martyr Brigade" that claimed responsibility for the incident. The letter said it was revenge for Malaysia persecuting them and for China suppressing the Uigurs. The Uigars are an ethnic minority in China. Last week, an extremist Uigur group allegedly perpetrated a knife attack in a Chinese train station that left 29 dead and more than 100 injured. Plane May Have Turned Back: A radar recording indicates that the plane may have turned back toward Malaysia after taking off, but the pilots made no such indication on the radio. Oil Slicks Tested: Oil slicks spotted off the Vietnam coast were thought to be signs of the downed plane, but tests have come back showing they had nothing to do with the aircraft and were not related to the disappearance. Also, a piece of debris thought to be from the plane also proved to be unrelated. Fake Passports Used By Two Passengers Investigators discovered that two passengers used stolen passports, one from Austria and one from Italy, to board the flight. Interpol criticized Malaysia for not checking the men's passports against the international database of stolen passports, where they would have seen that the passports had been reported stolen in 2012 and 2013. Both were stolen in Thailand. The two individuals who used the stolen passports were identified on CCTV footage and described by a Malaysian official as "not Asian-looking." One of men was identified as Pouria Nour Mohammad Mehrdad, 19. The Iranian has no known terrorist connections, and he was likely trying to enter Germany to seek asylum http://news.yahoo.com/missing-malaysia-airline-plane-know-now-202523819--abc-news-topstories.html March 11 2014 Breaking News REUTERS Malaysia Airline MH370 Air Force chief denies lost plane tracked to west - A massive air and sea search now in its fifth day has failed to find any trace of the Boeing 777, and the last 24 hours have seen conflicting statements and reports over what may have happened after it lost contact with air traffic controllers http://news.yahoo.com/malaysia-military-source-says-missing-jet-veered-west-004734056--sector.html March 11 2014 Breaking News Associated Press Nearly three days after the Boeing 777 with 239 people on board disappeared en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing, no debris has been seen in Southeast Asian waters http://news.yahoo.com/stolen-passports-probed-malaysian-plane-mystery-174324605--finance.html March 10 2014 Breaking News REUTERS Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 disappearance among rarest aviation disasters http://news.yahoo.com/malaysian-jets-disappearance-among-rarest-aviation-disasters-033407869--sector.html March 9 2014 Breaking News REUTERS Interpol probes more suspect passports from missing flight MH370 239 people aboard Interpol maintains a vast database of more than 40 million lost and stolen travel documents, and has long urged member countries to make greater use of it to stop people crossing borders on false papers. It is clearly of great concern that any passenger was able to board an international flight using a stolen passport listed in Interpol's databases," Secretary General Ronald Noble said. The database is currently available to law enforcement authorities but not to airlines, the spokeswoman said. For years Interpol has asked why should countries wait for a tragedy to put prudent security measures in place at borders and boarding gates," Noble said. Despite years of pressure from Interpol, in 2013 passengers were able to board planes a billion times without their passports being screened against the agency's databases, the agency said http://news.yahoo.com/interpol-says-examining-additional-suspect-passports-malaysia-flight-130200611--sector.html;_ylt=AwrSyCOz9hxTJG4AJ0vQtDMD March 9 2014 Breaking News New York Times Passport Theft Adds to Mystery of Missing Malaysia Airlines Jet http://www.nytimes.com/2014/03/09/world/asia/malaysia-airlines-flight.html?_r=0 March 9 2014 Breaking News Huffington Post Malaysia Airlines Plane Missing At Sea Off Vietnam http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/03/08/malaysia-airlines-plane-missing_n_4924974.html
