- description: Early on Saturday morning, a helicopter took off from the field at Edward A. LeLacheur Park, the home of a minor league baseball team in Massachusetts, in order to set a new world record for the highest elevation a baseball has ever been caught from before. Making the attempt was Zack Hample, a baseball collector who has caught more than 6,800 major league baseballs in his life at more than 50 US Major League Baseball (MLB) stadiums since 1990. Hample wore full catchers gear for safety, as the ball was travelling at 95mph when it reached the ground. After seemingly losing sight of the ball several times, Hample leaned back and made the catch successfully, topping the previous world record of 822 feet (254m). The stunt was part of his season-long BIGS Baseball Adventure, a sponsored trip around Major League Baseball that sees the company donate $500 to a charity every time he catches a game-used ball at an MLB stadium.
