Speaking to dundalkfc.com after the match, local midfielder Stephen McDonnell expressed his happiness at the performance and praised his fellow players for adapting to the challenge. "Fantastic to get three points in your local derby. It was a great performance by all the lads. Drogheda were physically at it tonight, they were bombarding us with long balls all night we had to deal with that. For a small side, we did very well with everything they threw at us and we were excellent on the counter attack, which is how we scored. It was a great win." McDonnell was the creator for Pat Hoban to score the winning goal as he won the ball in midfield before playing the ball to the striker. The Dundalk native brushed off praise for his part in the goal before admitting he is hopeful that he has taken the opportunity that has arisen for him with the suspensions in the squad. "I was lucky enough to win the ball and I just seen Pat (Hoban) and it was a great finish. You have to grab these opportunities when they come around. Tonight was one for me and hopefully it is the door-opener. It was great to be a part of it and get the full 90 under my belt and I want to be involved more often now." The Lilywhites sit in fourth spot just two points off champions Sligo Rovers who are in third and the former Celtic youngster feels everything is going well and they are in the right place. "Everything has gone great so far. The start has gone better than any of us could imagine. The main thing is that everyone has got games which is important, some haven't played as often as they've liked but everyone has had a fair chance. We're where we want to be sitting and moving nicely." The border club have gone through the season somewhat under the radar and the 21 year-old is looking forward to the big match against St. Patrick's Athletic on Friday and feels there is no reason why they can't claim all three points. "We're flying but nobody is talking about us. We're a confident bunch and we don't go talking to papers or anyone. Friday is a big one. We're delighted with the progress we're making. It's been fantastic. We believe we can get three points on Friday night against St. Patrick's Athletic and why wouldn't we? We beat them in Inchicore so we know we can beat them."
