  • description: The ISPCC have released the 2011 Childline statistics highlighting the issue of emotional abuse. In 2011 more than 54,000 contacts were made to the service by children experiencing some level of emotional abuse. To raise awareness of the damaging affects of emotional abuse the ISPCC have launched the 'Children believe what they are told' campaign. The girl in the video encompasses the many stories we hear from children every day of the week, children who experience feelings of worthlessness, who feel unloved and feel they do not deserve to be happy. The ISPCC are asking the Irish public to continue to show their compassion and support the work of the ISPCC by wearing an ISPCC Shield. Shields can be bought for just €2 through our website, ispcc.ie and in participating retail outlets, a full list of stores can be found here. The Shield is a symbol of child protection, a symbol of hope and a reminder to every child that they are worth fighting for. As a society we need to do more to protect children from harm and abuse that will echo deep inside into adulthood. The ISPCC are here to support children 24 hours a day through Childline www.childline.ie as well as parents/teachers/schools through our dedicated support line which we operate every day 9-5.30pm available on 01 6767960.
