- description: The motorway was constructed around a half-demolished five-storey apartment in the city of Wenling, in Zhejiang province, after Luo Baogen and his wife would not move. Cars travelling along the new motorway are forced to drive around the building. The couple insisted on staying in their home because they claimed the compensation offered for relocating was not enough to cover the costs of rebuilding. Their neighbours have vacated the building but rooms adjacent to their apartment have been left intact to ensure their safety. In China it is illegal to demolish property without an agreement from the owners, the Daily Mail reports. Another couple in Zaozhuang, in the Shandong province, were left stranded on their small piece of land after daring to stand in the way of a property developer. The developer dug up the earth around the property and Niu Chaungen and Zhang Zhonguyn, both in their 60s, were left without running water and electricity.
