Wave Crashes Into Wall: More Than 30 Hurt | The tidal bore, which was more powerful due to typhoon Trami, sent people fleeing for their lives in China. Dozens of people have been hurt after a huge wave up to 20 metres high crashed into a riverfront in China. It destroyed part of a protection wall and net along the Qiantang River near the city of Hainin in eastern Zhejiang Province. More than 30 people were injured by the tidal bore that became more powerful due to typhoon Trami. The injured were being treated in hospital and no deaths were reported. China's maritime authorities on Wednesday issued red alerts, the highest warning, for storm tides and waves as Typhoon Trami approached land. Trami, the 12th typhoon to hit China this year, is expected to make landfall in east China's Fujian Province between Wednesday night and early Thursday morning, said the National Marine Environmental Forecasting Center. The wave warning was raised to red because the typhoon will trigger waves as high as nine meters in the south of the East China Sea, the north of the Taiwan Strait and waters around the Diaoyu Islands, the center said. A red alert was also issued as water levels on the coast of Fujian and Zhejiang provinces are expected to increase by as high as 170 cm, according to the center. Local authorities in Shanghai Municipality as well as Zhejiang and Fujian provinces have been asked to evacuate residents living in low-lying areas and run-down homes. The forecasting center also urged the reinforcement of fishing facilities at sea and repairs to sea walls and water gates to prepare for the tides. China has a four-tier color-coded weather warning system, with red representing the most severe, followed by orange, yellow and blue. Endi
