Ronde van Vlaanderen 2015 The 99th edition of the Tour of Flanders, the second of five monuments of the cycling season, decended into chaos on Sunday after a Shimano neutral service car caused two separate crashes forced riders to abandon the 264.2-kilometre cobbled classic from Brugge to Oudenaarde.. The first incident came around 100km from the finish when Jesse Sergent of Trek Factory Racing was sideswiped by a Shimano neutral service vehicle as it attempted to pass the seven-man break the Kiwi was part of. The shocking pictures brought back memories of Johnny Hooglerland's horror crash when the rider was propelled into a barbed wire fence during the 2011 Tour de France, though unlike the Dutchman Sergent was unable to continue. After Sergent was taken away by race ambulance Trek Factory Racing confirmed that the 26-year-old had sustained a suspected broken collarbone. “In the break Jesse Sergent just got knocked off his bike by a neutral support vehicle,” Trek Factory Racing said. “Jesse is with first aid. Sadly it looks like a broken collarbone. We will confirm when we know more.” Just 45 minutes later another car - again a Shimano neutral service vehicle - was involved in a collision this time causing Sébastien Chavanel to go over his handlebars which led to him abandoning the race.
