- description: He's one very little busy boy, 3-year-old Grayson Clamp from Charlotte who's now experiencing a different world after undergoing a one-of-a kind surgery. Grayson was born deaf but a surgery has giving him the gift of sound. According to WBTV, Grayson is missing the cochlear nerves in his ear to help him process and hear sound. For his parents, Len and Nicole Clamp they took a chance after hearing about a surgery called "Auditory Brain Stem Implant" at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill. Grayson is the first child in the U.S. to undergo the surgery. It involves a microchip implanted in his brain to help him hear. Grayson's parents are now trying to teach him how to process all the sounds he hears. "We don't know exactly what he hears. His brain is still trying to organize itself to use sound," according to his mother. The Clamp family said they're willing to do anything to help their adoptive son as he continues to grow and develop. But most of all they're just excited Grayson can now hear their voices.
