  • description: The 2015 Melbourne Cup has been won by Prince of Penzance, with Max Dynamite in second, Criterion in third and Trip to Paris in fourth. Who came last: Cup veteran Red Cadeaux did not finish the race. Unofficially, he will be listed as last. Snow Sky, one of the pre-race favourites, was the last horse to pass the post. The six-year-old unfancied horse made a huge charge in the final to take the lead with 200 metres to run to take the race. He held off a massive challenge from Max Dynamite to win the Cup, and deliver Darren Weir his maiden Melbourne Cup Jockey Michelle Payne has become the first female jockey to win the Melbourne Cup, being the only female jockey in the race. All the favourites, including Criterion, Trip to Paris, Max Dynamite and Preferment jumped well while favourite Fame Game fell back in the field, as he did in the Caulfield Cup earlier this year. Big Orange, not a form horse in the lead-up to the race took up the leading role for the opening mile of the race. Topweight Snow Sky slipped high up in the field early on, in a move that didn’t pay off as he was passed by the strong horses late in the race. Michelle Payne was simply astounded after the race, praising her horse which had been written off prior to the race in the face of the favourites like Trip to Paris, Fame Game and Max Dynamite. Cup legend Red Cadeaux, who had come second in the last three Melbourne Cups, was injured during the race but appeared to walk away from the incident with a leg bandaged. It pulled up badly late in the race, and didn’t cross the line. Early reports indicate the horse is okay, aside from the tendon injury. MELBOURNE CUP LIVE UPDATES, RESULT More to follow…
