  • description: Late Saturday evening, real estate magnate Robert Durst was arrested in New Orleans on a Los Angeles warrant related to a homicide investigation. Many speculate that the arrest was connected to tonight’s final episode of the HBO documentary series about his multiple murder trials and acquittals. As HBO’s The Jinx has meticulously documented, Durst was suspected of three separate murders over the past 40 years: The first being the slaying of his wife in 1982; the second, in 2000, of his friend who was a witness in the original murder investigation; and the third, in 2001, of his neighbor whose corpse was infamously discovered in Galveston Bay. He has maintained his innocence in all three cases, including the latter, for which he was acquitted because of a self-defense claim. His arrest this weekend, however, came as part of an investigation into the 2000 death of Durst’s friend, Susan Berman. The Jinx director Andrew Jarecki snagged Durst for a tell-all interview that served as the framework for their documentary series. Perhaps unintentionally, that interview audio tape included a very incriminating piece of evidence, as we saw during the final moments of Sunday’s finale. “What the hell did I do?” Durst whispered to himself while in the bathroom, unaware that his mic was still hot. “Killed them all, of course.”
