- description: Our 4 year old PS 2 was having intermittend problems with noisy disc, not playing at all. Firstly: Remove the 6 philips screws from the base, and carefully open the PS2 up. A bit tricky, but it will come apart. I cleaned up the inside of the PS 2 which was very dusty. Secondly: I fitted two small washers underneath the rubber supports. These seem to get soft and the centre spindle may cause the disc to sit lower and rub against the plastic casing. Thirdly: I applied a tiny amount of oil on the screw thread which is controlled by the little motor, which shifts the laser assembly. Before the opening up I made a paper spacer which fits underneath the disc, if people don't want to open up the PS2, that was working fine too..
