  • description: The Netherlands saw off France 8-4 in the Quarter Final of the Rabobank Hockey World League. The Dutch will now play Australia in a mouth- watering Semi Final on Friday. The Dutch were a goal up after three minutes. Jeroen Hertzberger converted from the penalty spot after the ball struck Guillaume Deront on the line from a short corner. It was 2-0 five minutes later. Billy Bakker probed a ball into the D, Constantijn Jonker steered it into the goal. France pulled one back after twenty one minutes against the run of play. Jaap Stockmann parried Lucas Sevestres' drag flick from a short corner. The rebound fell to Deront and showed great technique to bury the shot. Incredibly France levelled up the tie. A well placed drag flick from Viktor Lockwood added extra spice to the Quarter Final. Hertzberger put the Dutch in front again just before half time; another short corner routine to take the Dutch strikers' tally to seven for the tournament. Valentin Verga put daylight between the two sides early in the second half, a glorious reverse stick finish to round off a great Dutch move. Hertzberger made it 5-2 and claimed a hat-trick after he slotted Jonkers' pull back. France got on the score sheet which made for an interesting end to the game. Martin Genestet turned in Durchons' cross. It was short lived though. Rogier Hofman restored the Dutch three goal lead swiftly from a well worked short corner. Robert Kemperman made it 7-3 with a wonderful solo effort, a powerful run and smashed his shot into the roof of the net. France refused to go quietly and scored a fourth, Genestet with the deflected touch. The Netherlands finished with a flourish, Quirjin Caspers with a goal in the last minute to make the final score 8-4.
