Su PC il gioco è uscito il 1º giugno 2012. Questo è il primo videogioco della serie di Max Payne a non essere sviluppato dalla casa videoludica Finlandese Remedy Entertainment ed a non essere scritto dal creatore della serie Sam Lake. Nonostante questo la Remedy Entertainment ha supervisionato il videogioco. È inoltre il primo titolo della serie ad avere una modalità multiplayer online. La versione per Xbox 360 occupa due DVD.
