- description: No, he hasn't given up the day job. But if Prince Charles ever fancies becoming a weatherman, he could rain supreme. Yesterday, clutching a remote control and reading authoritatively from an autocue, he looked perfectly at home as he took over the forecast on a visit to BBC Scotland. He was introduced live on air by lunch-time news presenter Sally Magnusson with the words: 'Over to you, Your Royal Highness.' Against the backdrop of the BBC's weather map, the prince delivered an almost word-perfect reading of a specially written script. The weather map had been given a royal makeover in honour of its guest presenter, and was dotted with family landmarks including Balmoral, the Castle of Mey and Dumfries House. 'Well it's an unsettled picture as we head towards the end of the week,' he began. 'Ahh, this afternoon it will be cold, wet and windy across most of Scotland. The rain, of course, will be heaviest over the borders and, err, around Edinburgh, where it could lead to difficult conditions on the roads.' But the rain of Prince Charles was not over yet. He went on to say there would be a few drier interludes 'over Dumfries House in Ayrshire'. At this he point he turned to the camera and gave a cheery 'a-ha!' of recognition. He continued: 'There will be snow for the higher ground of the Highlands and Aberdeenshire' and 'there will be the potential for a few flurries over Balmoral' before chuckling and asking: 'Who the hell wrote this script?' The royal couple, who are known as the Duke and Duchess of Rothesay north of the border, were visiting the Glasgow studios to mark 60 years of BBC Scotland television. A Clarence House spokesman said: 'The Prince entered into the spirit of the occasion and did very well, we think.' Afterwards, Camilla said of her husband: 'He's always longed to do it. He watches it every night!' His wife, the Duchess of Cornwall, also gave the forecasting a go but it was her husband who clearly stole the show. Indeed his famously expressive hand gestures made him an entirely natural weatherman. The couple, who are known as the Duke and Duchess of Rothesay in Scotland, were visiting the BBC studios in Pacific Quay, Glasgow, as part of their annual Holyrood week and to celebrate sixty years of BBC Scotland Television. The unlikely scenario sent national News at One presenter Sophie Raworth into fits of laughter. She Tweeted: 'Something I never thought I'd say - watch Prince Charles and Camilla have a go at being weather presenters.' Later on air she turned to her weatherman, Nick Miller, and joked: 'You might have some competition.' After Charles had finished, Miller congratulated the royal on getting it spot on, adding: 'That's proof that even the royals can't give us dry weather, because he's absolutely right.' A Clarence House spokeswoman added: 'He spends a lot of time in Scotland so he's very interested in the weather there.'
