The plane took off from Istanbul around 11 p.m. and was airborne when lightning struck. One of the engines caught fire and passengers began panicking onboard. The pilot, however, managed to land the plane at İzmir Adnan Menderes Airport with no further problems. Firefighters immediately intervened. Bertan Atay, one of the passengers onboard who captured the whole event on his camera, said nothing else abnormal occurred during the flight and the lights remained on."
