Having lost the first leg 2-0 in Korea Republic last week 2007 winners Urawa knew they had it all to do in front of their own fans at Saitama Stadium, and Shinzo Koroki got them off to the perfect start in the 18th minute when he headed home a Yosuke Kashiwagi free kick from deep. Tadanari Lee made it 2-0 on the night and levelled the tie up with a sharp finish from an acute angle 15 minutes later, and with nine minutes of regular time to play Jeju were reduced to 10 men when Cho Yong-hyung received a second yellow card. Ryota Moriwaki then sparked delirious scenes after converting a Toshiyuki Takagi cross in the 114th minute, before tempers flared at the end of extra time as unused substitute Baek Dong-gyu and the substituted Kweon Hang-jin became the second and third Jeju players to be dismissed. Urawa will now appear beyond the AFC Champions League Round of 16 for the first time since 2008, when they lost 4-2 on aggregate to fellow Japanese side - and eventual winners - Gamba Osaka in the semi-finals.
