Use common sense. Of course, you would always obey the road rules, but it is also important not to be rude. In fact, there is no need for rude gestures of any sort! A few simple gestures -- of the friendly kind, mind you -- can improve the atmosphere immensely on the roads. If you need to take the lane, wave to those behind you to thank them for their patience. If you have pulled over to let someone pass (occasionally necessary, I find, on some of Wellington's er- more 'challenging' topography), wave to them too. It will brighten their day and yours too, if they wave back. Be predictable in your movements -- no one likes an unpleasant surprise. Especially not a surprise visit from Aunt Agatha. But I digress... where were we? Oh yes, be a friendly cyclist, is what I'm getting at. You never know, you might even like it! Good day!
