The incident, currently being investigated by the İstanbul Police Department's Public Security Branch Office, took place at Sabiha Gökçen Airport at around 9 a.m. on Wednesday, according to media reports. 22-year-old Dinara A., who was reportedly living in Turkey as an illegal immigrant, recently gave birth to a baby out of wedlock. After putting her baby up for sale online, Dinara A. negotiated with a Turkish couple and made plans to hand over her baby in a toilet in the airport. Dinara A. came to the airport with her baby and her mother, Sapıa A., and headed to the toilet after having a short talk with the buyer, N.B. Dinara A. and her mother walked into a toilet with a baby carrier and later left without it. N.B., realizing that he would not be able to leave the airport with the baby, put the infant back in the toilet and later notified the police about an abandoned baby. Airport officials later discovered the negotiation after watching security camera footage, which had captured the entire incident. Police returned the four-month-old infant to her mother, who was caught at the airport, and later deported Dinara A. and Sapıa A. after the necessary procedures were completed. N.B., who was detained by the police, reportedly denied charges of attempting to purchase a baby, claiming that he had only wanted to help Dinara A. by lending her some money so that she could look after her baby.
