- description: On May 25th 2013, Auckland and other cities in New Zealand joined over 40 nations throughout the world in the March Against Monsanto. Key issues relating to New Zealand are: - Keeping New Zealand GE production free. - Labeling GE produce that is imported into NZ. - Banning GE animal feed. - Banning harmful herbicides & pesticides. - Opposing the Trans Pacific Partnership Agreement (which if passed, could mean the loss of New Zealand's ability to democratically self-regulate what is right for our country). Despite New Zealand's reputation as a clean-green country, we are currently not doing much to live up to our name, as we begin fracking, opening up our marine reserves for oil exploration, giving up our conservation land to open-cast mining, droping 75% of the worlds produced 1080 poison on Department of Conservation land and blanketing agricultural land in harmful herbicides and pesticides that have been banned in other countries. We have a unique ability in New Zealand to remain GE free, and to become a leader in organic farming and sustainability for the rest of the world, but it's a window that is fast closing.
