When police officers broke up a fight among a group of teens in downtown D.C., several stragglers remained in the area. According to 17-year-old Aaliyah Taylor, after a female police officer asked the teens to clear out, Taylor blasted “Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae)” and started dancing to the song. The officer reportedly told Taylor she had better dance moves, and proceeded to prove it; onlookers recorded the stellar dance-off, which ended with both participants declaring victory. The two embraced and the teens dispersed.Taylor said she appreciated how the officer responded to the situation. “Instead of us fighting, she tried to turn it around and make it something fun. I never expected cops to be that cool,” Taylor said. “I thought all cops were cruel because that’s how I saw them,” Taylor added. In a statement, D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier praised the officer, saying “The viral video today of the First District Officer positively engaging with teens and diffusing the conflict yesterday in a manner that appropriately resolved the call is reflective of the many positive police-community interactions that take place daily in Washington, D.C.,” the statement read.
