Weta Workshop worked on the digital and prosthetic make-up and background arts for the film. The dubbed Telugu version of the film, earlier titled Manoharudu, was also later titled I. The film was made on a budget of INR1.85 billion (US$30 million), making it the costliest Indian film to date. Principal photographycommenced on 15 July 2012. The filming lasted for two years and eight months, during which shooting was done extensively inChina. Further schedules were filmed in exotic locations Chennai, Bangkok, Jodhpur, Kodaikanal, Pollachi, Bangalore andMysore. The film is scheduled for a Diwali 2014 release.
