Walter Hudson, a Penns Grove resident and chairman of Salem County based civil rights organization National Awareness Alliance, said the press conference is in response to dashcam video release Tuesday that showed the fatal shooting of Reid, 36. Hudson, a member of the Penns Grove-Carneys Point school board in Salem County, was indicted in October on charges he assaulted a Penns Grove police officer during a fight at the district's middle school. His organization has held two rallies in recent weeks following Reid's death on Dec. 30. The Cumberland County Prosecutor's Office is investigating the use of deadly force in the shooting, in which the two officers — Braheme Days and Roger Worley — discharged their weapons at Reid after a gun was "revealed," the prosecutor's office said. The press conference will be at the Cumberland County Prosecutor's Office, 115 Vine St. at 1 p.m., and during that time, Hudson said his group will demand that the investigation be turned over to the New Jersey Attorney General's Office. Steven Moore, president of the South Jersey Chapter of National Action Network, Rev. Al Sharpton's South Jersey organization, is also expected to attend. Prosecutor Jennifer Webb-McRae has recused herself from the investigation because she knows Days from the community, according to Cumberland County First Assistant Prosecutor Harold Shapiro, who has taken over for her. "If she has a conflict so does her subordinates including the investigators within her agency," said Hudson in a press release. "Considering the position that she holds, she should be willing to preserve the integrity of the investigation and hand it over to another law enforcement agency." Philadelphia-based attorney Conrad J. Benedetto, who is representing the Reid family, confirmed Tuesday evening that his office has issued a letter to the county prosecutor's office requesting that the entire department recuse itself from the investigation and that the probe be handed over to "either the New Jersey Office of the Attorney General or some non-conflicted law enforcement agency," according to previous reports. "The justice department should investigate all fatal police actions instead of local officials, and that officers should go through the same process that civilians face," Moore said in a press release. "When someone shoots somebody in the street, they're immediately arrested and held without bond. Well, it should be the same thing with a police officer."
