The Ice Bucket Challenge, or the #ALSIce BucketChallenge, is all about having a bucket of ice water thrown on one's head, filming it and nominating 3 other people to do the same, all in an effort to raise funds and awareness around ALS. In 2011, Joost van der Westhuizen was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), an aggressive form of MND. He is now in stage three of MND, and will become bed-ridden once he reaches stage four. The former Springbok captain contacted The Complimentary Breakfast to thank the team for undertaking the #IceBucketChallenge and accepted the challenge to participate himself. He went on to nominate the Springboks, The Wallabies and The All Blacks – AND Jacaranda FM GM, Kevin Fine.
