Thousands of onlookers gathered in the city for the annual Skyshow watched in horror yesterday as the Grumman G-73 Mallard flying boat banked sharply before crashing into the water. Sea plane involved in Swan River crash After the crash, authorities cancelled the planned Skyworks fireworks show and warned the tens of thousands of spectators already gathered to leave the area. Perth Lord Mayor Lisa Scaffidi said this year's show would not be rescheduled, and they were now reviewing the format for future years. Tributes have been paid to Mr Lynch, who was a member of aviation enthusiast community the Great Eastern Fly-In. He had been planning to open a new aviation museum at Evans Head, on the northern New South Wales coast, and an aviation park. Close friend Halden Boyd said the Evans Head community was "shell-shocked" by the news. "He just loved aviation so much, everyone that knew him loved him to death. He was such a genuine guy," Mr Boyd said. "We're all pretty shell-shocked, he's such a nice bloke, he had such a vision." Friend Gai Taylor said Mr Lynch had a huge passion for flying. "He just loved flying, he loved it." Mr Lynch is survived by his three children. A mining executive with business interests in Indonesia, he is understood to have only moved to Western Australia from Queensland six months ago. Mr Lynch was director of development at Fortescue Metals Group, which described him as a "highly experienced mining executive". "He brought energy, enthusiasm and a great team spirit to the role and he will be missed enormously," Fortescue's chief executive Nev Power said. "Peter was a great mate and all of us at Fortescue convey our deepest condolences to his family, including his three children, and to Endah's family." Mr Lynch also formerly worked for Clive Palmer's Waratah Coal, and it released a statement paying tribute to his "ingenuity, business savvy and entrepreneurial spirit". "His zest for business flowed into his personal life, where his passion for restoring cars, boating and flying were infectious," the company said. Cakrawati remembered as 'outgoing, happy girl' Endah Cakrawati Ms Cakrawati worked with Mr Lynch as the investor and public relations manager for Cokal, an Australian-listed coal company which operates in Indonesia, Tanzania and Mozambique. Mr Boyd remembered her as a "very, very vibrant, bubbly, outgoing and very happy girl", who was well respected in the Indonesian media. The Indonesian Consulate General said they had contacted Ms Cakrawati's family, offering for them to come to Perth, Indonesian Consulate General Ade Padmo Sarwono told the ABC. Endah is known as a model, MC, and presenter in Indonesia. According to her LinkedIn profile, she studied at Universitas Esa Ungul in Jakarta, and had worked for Cokal for three years. Police this morning removed the plane's fuel tanks from the water, but continued to keep the scene locked down as they combed through the wreckage looking for answers.
