Immediately before the puck drop, the New Zealand team performed the traditional haka, with the South African team facing them at centre ice. PERIOD 1 In the first period New Zealand struck first, with Callum Burns putting the puck past Marcello Strydom seven minutes into the game. New Zealand doubled its lead after eleven minutes when Max Macharg scored. Ben Roth assisted on both goals. New Zealand had 8 shots for the period, South Africa 4. PERIOD 2 Just over two minutes into the second period South Africa cut the lead in half with Dylan Compton scoring after New Zealand’s Thomas Carson-Pratt was penalised for interference. Fourteen minutes later Ben Roth scored for New Zealand to restore the two goal lead, with assists going to Joe Orr and Carson-Pratt. New Zealand had 11 shots for the period, South Africa 6. PERIOD 3 During the third period New Zealand scored two more goals, to Joe Orr and Taylor Kennedy. Ben Roth added a further assist. New Zealand also had a goal disallowed for goalkeeper interference. Both teams recorded 11 shots during the period. POST GAME Best player of the game for South Africa was Brandon Husselman, best player of the game for New Zealand was Ben Roth.
