It's the compulsory insurance every car has to have, that covers you for injury you cause to other people in an accident, including your passengers. CTP insurance covers personal injury, but NOT damage to your car, or other peoples cars or property. To cover property damage, you need one of the next three types of insurance. Tom has Third Party Property Damage car insurance. This covers him for damage he causes to other people's cars or property, but NOT his own. He know that his old car might be easy and affordable to replace, but running into someone else's car or property could cost him a small fortune. His Third Party Property Damage cover means that's something he doesn't have to worry about. Emma would like a bit of cover for her car too in case it's stolen or damaged, so she has Third Party Fire and Theft car insurance. This gives her the same cover Tom's got, for damage to other people's property, PLUS she has cover for her car if it's damaged by thieves... or by fire. If she wants her car covered for more things, like accidental damage that's her fault, she needs what Matt's got. Matt has Comprehensive Car Insurance. His car's one of his biggest assets, so he wants to protect it as much as he can. His comprehensive cover has all the features Emma & Tom have, PLUS his car's covered for accidental damage, even if the accident was his fault. It's the most popular and far-reaching type of cover.
