Fire Rages in Colorado Springs: US Air Force, Military Combat Wildfires - Evacuations Continue

Colorado is the most severe of the 29 large active wildfires being fought across the United States this week, the bulk of which are in seven western states -- Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, Montana, New Mexico, Arizona and California. Colorado governor John Hickenlooper: "We just flew over the fires and we could just see the path that they came down out of the hills. It was like looking at a military invasion and we want to make sure that Mayor Bach and everybody in El Paso County knows that the entire state is behind them." The US Air Force issued a statement saying the military was preparing to dispatch up to 25 more helicopters to join the firefighting effort. Authorities earlier said that half of the fleet of eight Air Force C-130 cargo planes equipped as water tankers were already at work, dropping flame-retardant chemicals over the blaze.
