- description: 4th Oct, 2012, Luis de Guindos, Spanish minister of the economy and competitiveness gave a lecture in London School of Economics. The lecture belonged to one of those public events that LSE constantly holds, everyone is welcome to attend these events, as in which you would be able to hear speech from some of the most influential figures in the social sciences. Luis de Guindos the minister themed his lecture as 'Competitiveness and Sustainability - Spain's Economic Policy Strategy. The expected standard account on the Spanish economic situation and the standard approval on government's austerity measures given by the minister led to an outcry of a lady in the auditorium demanding the minister to confront with the query on big corporation evading tax. A few of others showed solidarity with the frustration the lady expressed and chanted 'he does not represent us' with a banner on their hands read 'Spain On Sale'. They heckled, 'What about the people? You didn't talk about the people..' A woman, who sat close to the protesters, responded revengefully at the end of the heckling (at 02:45 in the video), 'I don't think they represent all the Spanish. You don't represent all the Spanish!'. She applauded strongly for the minister, in the way to show that she didn't want to identify herself with the outraged ones. There was not only one group of audience who wasn't unsatisfied with de Guindos the minister. A gentleman at the other side of the auditorium succeeded to get hold of the microphone and asked, 'Why do you scarifies the public sector to save the private sector, to the fact that it was the private sector who created the problem?' As the minister was merely trying to rephrase his standard answer, he had provoked another gentleman, who also couldn't make sense of his answer, to speak out. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n9VJxFwEN3I&feature=plcp At the end of the lecture, I interviewed the woman, who identify herself more with the minister than the ordinary members of public, in order to find out what is more we could have made sense of the minister's lecture. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yow36SrbGM8
