Father Shoots Son, Turns Gun on Self at YWCA in Manchester, NH

- description: MANCHESTER, N.H. -- A father and a son are dead following a shooting at the YWCA on Concord Street in Manchester, N.H. Sunday morning, police said. Police officers and a tactical team responded to 72 Concord St. at about 10:11 a.m. after a caller reported shots had been fired. When officers arrived, they discovered two bodies inside a second floor room that is part of a supervised visitation center within the YWCA. The two deceased victims were identified as 9-year-old Joshua Savyon, of Amherst, N.H., and his father, 54-year-old Muni Savyon, of Manchester, N.H. An investigation revealed that Muni Savyon arrived at the YWCA at about 9:30 a.m. Sunday for a supervised visit with his son. A male counselor was also in the room during the one-hour visitation. Partway through the visitation, Muni Savyon took out a gun and shot his son several times, killing him. He then turned the gun on himself, police said. The counselor managed to escape the room unharmed. While the investigation is still in its early stages, detectives determined Muni Savyon had been separated from his son's mother for several years and had threatened to kill himself, his son's mother, and his son. The New Hampshire Attorney General's Office and the Manchester Police Department are investigating.
