Among the damage seen in the aftermath Thursday was a monument dedicated to fallen World War II soldiers, as the area was once the scene of intense fighting between the Red Army and Nazi troops. Also amid the debris were burnt-out military vehicles and remnants of a rocket from a OTR-21 'Tochka' short-range tactical ballistic missile. The rocket reportedly fell before reaching its target of anti-Kiev forces. Saur-Mogila is located some 5 kilometres (3.1 miles) away from the Ukrainian border (Donetsk Region) with Russia (Rostov Oblast).
