  • description: Ryu 류현진 gets a giant hug from his new best friend Yasiel Puig and his old best friend Juan Uribe at the same time (at 1:33), and congratulations from everybody else in the dugout after pitching the 7th inning - I knew (and he and his teammates knew) it would be his last inning since he was due to bat 2nd in the inning, he had already thrown 95 pitches, he was winning 4-1, and the Dodgers bullpen has been pitching great lately. Don Mattingly wants to save his arm as much as he can for the rest of the season, playoffs and World Series. He beat Matt Harvey of the Mets in this game - who was the starting pitcher in the AllStar game. If the Dodgers had been playing this good, or even close to this good the whole season, Ryu and Kershaw would both have about 16 or 17 wins, and one of them probably would have started the AllStar game. Puig went 2 for 4 and scored a run, and Uribe went 2 for 3 and scored a run - always helping out Ryu when he pitches. If you look at the scoreboard at the very beginning of the video, you see Ryu had 34 balls and 61 strikes - 95 total pitches. As of right now, the MLB box score has it backwards - they have Harvey with 95 total pitches and 61 strikes, and Ryu with 107 total pitches. This was Ryu's last inning - Dee Gordon pinch-hit for him in the 7th. I didn't see Danny DeVito tonight - but Kareem Abdul Jabaar was there, along with lots of other stars I'm sure.
