  • description: This roadside restaurant is a local favorite for late night food cravings. The Colaba area in south Mumbai has many surprises for its visitors. And one of them is the Bademiya food stall situated in the narrow by lane just behind Taj Mahal hotel. Bademiya literally means the old man. And this place has been around for many years. Bademiya has been here for at least 60-70 years. Most popular are Seekh Kabob, Boti Kabob, Chicken Tikka, Chicken leg piece. What is your average cost of each serving.40-50 rupees (approximately 1 dollar). Bademiya is essentially a Barbeque place and that is quite obvious from the grills and skewers you see right here. The Baida roti which is essentially Indian bread stuffed with egg is quite a Bademiya specialty. In fact you should try the other version with chicken Baida roti which is chicken, egg, onion stuffed in Indian bread. I have been in Bombay for the last 12 years and ever since I have been a regular here. It is fantastic because the turnaround is fast, the food is fresh. These paper thin rotis are known as Romali rotis or handkerchief rotis because they are really thin and they almost fold like your handkerchief. But do not let the thickness fool you because these can be quite filling. Bademiya also caters to the vegetarians in the city by this separate vegetarian food stall. There may not be many items to choose from in the vegetarian section but be ready for some surprises. This is Paneer Tikka, Paneer which is cottage cheese on a skewer grilled and this is veg Seekh kabob. And this one out here plain and simple. Potato on a skewer grilled, it is called Aloo Tikka. Bademiya is not only about the food, in fact it is a great place to unwind after a party or those after movie discussions. Lot of people just drive up to the food stall and use their cars as table tops for the food. This place is functional only at night. And it is open till the wee hours of the morning. This is Dyu Dikuna showing you Mumbai.
