  • description: A giant spider the size of a tortoise comes crawling out of the bushes to terrify a group of British explorers in this skin-crawling video. Whether you're arachnophobic or not, the chances are you'd react in a similar foul-mouthed fashion to this Brit backpacker, who filmed the footage during an adventure to the Dominican Republic. During a day out driving buggies through the rainforest, the group was delayed when one of the vehicles in front broke down. The whurring sound of buggy engines can be heard as the woman mentions something "coming back with a vengeance". Right on cue, the undergrowth by the side of the road begins to rustle, and out comes the enormous, black arachnid. "Oh my f******!" she screams nonsensically. "Don't move! Don't move!" If she was talking to the spider it clearly wasn't listening, as it spindles its way towards the terrified woman, who screams in horror. The video cuts as the creature approaches, its pronged jaws clearly visible as it gets ever closer. Presumably, given she was able to publish the footage afterwards, the woman is not currently cocooned in a giant web deep in the jungle, awaiting to be consumed by the eight-legged monster. Posting the video online, she wrote: "Giant spider chased me on holiday in the Dominican Republic whilst on a day trip driving buggies, the car In front hand broken down, we were strapped in and couldn't move!" Judging by the video, the spider is in all probability the Hispaniolan Giant Tarantula, known locally as a 'Cacata'. Despite it's fearsome appearance, it is in fact a popular pet and although it's bite can cause skin irritation, is non-lethal to humans.
