Saturday Night Live has been on for 40 years — that right there is enough to honor the series. But the comedic production of the show and the stars and moments that have been created from the show are unmatchable and that’s why this anniversary is such a big deal. NBC has stuck with the show through some good times and bad, and the celebration kicked off by honoring those good times with Jimmy Fallon and Justin Timberlake rapping the best moments from the show’s past. Not everything was a rap, but the high octane randomness of the sketch was beautifully SNL-like in every single way. Earlier this week, Timberlake posted a photo on Instagram of an SNL 40 writing session where he promised "Jimmy Fallon is onto something funny... We think." After getting the Saved By the Bell cast back together, perhaps an 'NSync reunion is now part of The Tonight Show host's plans. More evidence that an 'NSync reunion could be happening (weather permitting): Chris Kirkpatrick tweeted that his "early flight to NYC" today was canceled. Hopefully Kirkpatrick can hop another plane before the Saturday Night Live 40th anniversary special airs Sunday night at 8 p.m. EST.
