- description: New Zealand took on Ireland in the opening game on day three of the men's Hockey World League in Rotterdam. The Black Stick's battled back from a goal down to claim a 4-2 victory. It was Ireland who started stronger. Chris Cargo forcing an early save from Goalkeeper Hamish McGregor. Ireland took the lead on eighteen minutes courtesy of an Alan Sothern penalty stroke after Dean Couzins was hit on the line following a penalty corner. The Black Sticks were level five minutes later after Nick Haig's route one ball into the D deflected off Jonathan Bell into the Ireland net. New Zealand took the lead in the second half, Nick Haig rattled in a blistering penalty flick for a 2-1 advantage. Ireland hit back immediately, Michael Watt turning and smashing a shot into the top corner to make it 2-2. New Zealand moved back in front after fifty four minutes. Blair Hilton finishing off a tidy break down the right. The Black Stick's made certain of the victory after sixty four minutes, Andy Hayward arrowed a low penalty corner drag flick inside the right post to make it 4-2 and take New Zealand to the summit of Pool B.
