Revan and Alek became Jedi Knights and fought in the Mandalorian Wars against the Order's wishes. The two became crusaders and regularly intervened in conflicts on behalf of the Republic. Revan finally defeated Mandalore the Ultimate, and with his dying breath, he revealed that had been manipulated by a Sith into waging war. Revan, along with Alek, now known as Malak, followed the trail to the Sith Lord Vitiate, who promptly turned them to the Dark Side. Anointed as Darth Revan and Darth Malak by their new master, he sent them as a vanguard to his invasion with orders to use the fabled Rakatan Star Forge to bolster the Sith forces. They eventually broke free of the Sith Lord's will, but they had already been corrupted. Revan declared himself the Dark Lord of a new Sith Empire, took on Malak as his apprentice, and sparked the Jedi Civil War. But Malak began to resent his master, thinking him weak for not exploiting the true powers of the Star Forge, sparking a duel between the two which resulted in Malak losing his jaw. Later, the Jedi Council would send a Jedi strike team to take down Revan. Malak, sensing an opportunity to destroy both his master and the Jedis, fired on Revan's vessel.
