Richard Tucker S14 Pro-Am Drift car Jahn Tamerler S14 Club Sport car Slipway is on Long Gully Farms in south Wellington and is run by the Watson family, who have been very generous in allowing and providing mutiple leisure activities available on their farm, with Drifting, Motokhana, 4WD, Dirt biking, Mountain biking, and hunting to name a few. I must give thanks to Steve and his family. Slipway has had the Zealandia/Karori Bird Sanctuary logde an appeal against the resource consent which was granted by WCC in early 2011, the appeal is based on the noise levels generated from Drifting. My personal opinion is that drifting is considered a "Boy RACER" activity by the general population and are judging our sport based on idiots on the streets and what makes it to the news media. With so much ignorance of the sport, it is very difficult to make headway and change perceptions. Drifting has come a long way in NZ with our D1NZ National Drifting Championship now in it's 7th year, drifting is an Internationally recognised sport, with championships held in all continents. D1NZ and we the racers have been working hard on changing those perceptions. We are dedicated racers just the same as any other motorsport, Slipway has provided many of the current Wellington area based D1NZ Championship Pro class and Pro-Am drivers, who have honed their skills at the facility. We as with all caring New Zealanders are very conscious of our amazing environment, the Naysayers are only focussed on the fauna and the impact we make to it, which to a point is a valid concern. However some where along the line they have forgotten about our children who long for an avenue to express their passion for driving and the fact that Slipway has provided that avenue. When Slipway started up it became a focus point for many drivers who were previously taking their chances on the street, they had gravitated away from the streets and to the facility.
