  • description: 2012-13 season pre-season friendly game between Hyundai A-League clubs Newcastle Jets and the Wellington Phoenix results in a on-field meelee after the Jet's Brazilian import Tiago collided with Wellington's #2 Manny Muscat. In the ensuing tussle, Muscat is clearly seen punching Tiago on the ground, prompting pushing and shoving from both sides. With both sides now involved, Wellington's Ben Sigmund is seen sprinting in and shoulder charging a Newcastle Player, while Tiago takes a swing and connects with Manny Muscat. The game was stopped for 5 minutes while the referee's calmed the players down, and debated amongst each other what to do. In the end 3 players were red carded and discipline action from the FFA (Football Federation Australia) is likely, despite it being a pre-season friendly, and not a competition game. The players sent off: Tiago Calvano: (Newcastle Jets) Manny Muscat: (Wellington Phoenix) Ben Sigmund: (Wellington Phoenix) During the game, Andrew Durante (Wellington Phoenix) was also sent from the field after picking up a straight red after retaliating to a Scott Neville challenge.
