Afi Drill Monkey Sanctuary, Nigeria (Day 137)

- description: Yesterday afternoon I arrived at The Afi Drill Monkey sanctuary in southern Nigeria. Although I had a bit of a chance to explore yesterday, today I really just spent the entire day watching the monkeys at the sanctuary. In total there are only 3,000 drill monkeys left on the planet, and at the moment, Afi Drill Ranch houses over 300 of them; a staggering 10% of the world's population. Much of that population lives in Nigeria, but many also live in neighbouring Cameroon. The Afi Drill Monkey Sanctuary is run by a company called Pandrillus which does wonderful work with all of the primates in Nigeria. They also look after related issues like deforestation. In general, my stay at the Afi Drill Monkey Sanctuary was brilliant. Tomorrow I push on into Cameroon.
