The reason for the invasion was that the lights at the stadium were not turned off the night before, which led to the moths occupying it. The incident was among the main discussed topics by the ITV pre-game show and it was also the basis for a pretty nice joke from Roy Keane. After watching live footage of the moth invasion, Giggs and Keane talked about how they actually played in such an environment and how unpleasant it was. However, at some Keane showed some excellent sense of humor by stating that all of the insects had come to the pitch after Giggs had opened his wallet.
