  • description: MBT Corporator asks Mayor to apologies for using derogatory remarks: Hyderabad, February 18: Majlis Bachao Tahreek (MBT) Azampura Division Corporator Amjed Ullah Khan has sought an unconditional apology from GHMC Mayor Mohammad Majid Hussain for using unparliamentary and derogatory remarks against him during the GHMC's special Budget meeting held on Monday. Amjed Ullah Khan (Corporator) while addressing the Media after he was forcibly removed from the GHMC Council meeting by the help of Marshals said that the Mayor did not allow him to speak during the GHMC's meeting and ensured his forcible eviction by calling marshals. "As a Corporator, I exercised my right to speak and protest during the GHMC's meeting. However, by using derogatory, unparliamentary and personal remarks against me, Majid Hussain has brought disrespect to the position of Mayor," he said. The Azampura Division Corporator said he wanted to speak about several issues concerning the common man in the GHMC limits. He said that Hyderabad has failed to get "Clean and Green City" Award and "Best lighten City" Award for the last six consecutive years due to the GHMC's failure. He said that the Corporation has also failed to release funds for the works sanctioned under "Corporators Budget" during the financial years 2011-12 and 2012-13. He said that the GHMC was unable to execute the works due to lack of staff in Engineering Wing. Pointing out that the GHMC's budget estimates have been increasing every year, he said the increase was not due to new works or additional funds, but due to "Spill Over" of works that remained unaccomplished. There are several instances, wherein the GHMC contractors have vanished after taking up works. Such contractors were not even blacklisted by the Corporation. Amjed Ullah Khan (Corporator) also expressed concern over the failure of GHMC to collect property tax from the VVIP defaulters. He said while the Corporation pressurises the common people and threaten them with dire consequences, it failed to collect Property Tax dues from the VVIPs that include MIM party MLAs. He said that the GHMC has been increasing the burden on existing Property Tax payers while it is not taking steps to include nearly 50 per cent of other property owners who never paid tax. He said all properties could be included under the tax-net using Information Technology. The MBT Corporator alleged that getting an arm's license has become easier than getting a Trade License in GHMC due to corruption at all levels. He alleged that the traders were being forced to pay bribes up to Rs 10,000 to 25,000 to get a Trade license.
